Value Gear - 1/48 Sandbag Front M4 Early Production Version #2

Background

In an effort to maximize frontal armor protection of Allied tanks during World War II, crews sometimes added sandbags to the glacis plate to increase armor thickness and to detonate incoming rounds prior to hull penetration.

The Product

Value Gear's latest series of sandbags focuses on M4 and M10 vehicles.  This example is for the Tamiya welded hull M4 Sherman.  A single-piece resin casting, the accessory is nicely molded with good detail.  The part fits flawlessly on the Tamiya host kit, and also fits on the Hobby Boss counterpart with just a little trimming of some pour gate tabs on the backside of the casting.

Very little cleanup and prep was needed to get the bags into primer.  Some quick scraping of the flash, a wash with Westley's Bleche White, and off to the paint booth it went.  After some rattle can primer and some Tamiya topcoat of XF-75 IJN Gray, some oil paints were used to lend highlights and Mig Dark Brown Wash accented recessed detail

Conclusion and Recommendation

A quick, accurate, and easy add for 1/48 Tamiya and Hobby Boss welded hull Shermans, I Highly Recommended for Beginner to Advanced builders.

Thanks goes out to Value Gear for this review accessory.
